Kuala Lumpur

On our way to Australia we decided to spend a couple of nights in Kuala Lumpur before boarding our midnight flight to Perth. We travelled by bus to the bus interchange, Bandar Tasik Selatan and then caught another one into Jalan Pudu in the city. It is an amazing city. We found the night-market and street hawkers of Jalan Alor, just around the corner from our first hotel. It reminded us of Indonesia – smoky, hot, not too clean, noisy but exciting.

The next morning we ventured into the city and had a look at some of the shopping malls. They were all decorated for Christmas. The Pavilion was an exercise in how to go over the top with decorations.

The Buddy bear exhibition was at Pavilion too . This exhibition of 2m hand painted bears hopes to foster tolerance between countries. Each bear is decorated by an artist from each country represented. There are about 140 bears in the collection. http://www.buddy-baer.com/

We travelled on the light rail from one end to the other and walked our legs off

We met friends later in the afternoon after walking our luggage to China Town to our next hotel, the China Town Boutique hotel, which was clean and comfortable. We were in the heart of China Town and we went exploring. They were setting up for the night market and it was very crowded. After a quick explore we headed back to the hotel for a rest before going out in the evening for dinner and a closer look at the Petaling Street China Town night market. “Genuine imitations” everywhere – designer bags, jewellery, watches, hats, clothing and more. So crowded and noisy!

The next day we all walked through the City forest, a cool leafy oasis in the heart of the city to the KL tower, a communications tower, 4th highest in the world to look at the view.

Petronas Towers from KL TThe view from the viewing deck was awesome, although, because of the hazy atmosphere we could not see to the edge of the world. We had a great view of the city and could point out our hotel, China Town, and other sights of KL. Back to the hotel and off to the Airport (LCCT) rail to KL Sentral and then Sky bus to the airport. It was a long way from the city (approx 54 km). Here we sat until we were called to board our midnight flight to Perth WA.
